Here at Thanet Boilers we often get asked for tips to keep home boilers running smoothly over the cold months. So here is our Super Seven tips. Some involve how you prepare for winter and some are what you can do throughout the cold period.
Test Your Boiler Early
This will take some planning but give your boiler a run towards the end of the Summer / Autumn just for 10 minutes or so. It just means that is any issues have crept up over the summer, you can get us in to fix. Of course if you have your regular service done, we will probably already have picked issues up!
Have Your Boiler Serviced
It's important that you have a regular boiler service, on an annual basis to make sure it is running smoothy and efficiently. Call us for a service before winter which will makesure your appliance is efficient and safe. Our servicing will also help to pivk up any small issues before they turn into big issues.
Bleed Radiators
Air gets trapped in the radiator system which stops the warm water running smoothly around the system. If you have cold rooms, cold parts of a radiator you might just need to release some air. You can get a radiator key from a DIY store for pennies!
Insulate Pipes
Any external pipes might need some protection, especially in older properties and of course there are thousands of older propertiesall over Thanet, Margate, Ramsge, Broadstairs, etc. Use some foam lagging or insulation to protect exposed pipes and once again this is available from DIY stores very cheaply.
Check Heating Controls, Smart or Otherwise
Take a look at your thermostat settings and check they are OK for the upcoming cold months. If you are using a Smart thermostat like Hive then you can very easily set the timings for each day on their app. Optimize energy use as best you can.
Insulate Home & Prevent Draughts
Even the smallest outlet from your home will suck the heat out so seal any gaps you can. Stand near doors and windows and see if you can feel any draughts or cold air. Not only will this reduce strain on your boiler but it will also reduce the strain on your wallet!
Carbon Monoxide Alarms
It is always worth having a carbon monoxide detector around the area in which your boiler sits. If there are any issues, at least we can pick that up early and Thanet Boilers can fix that.
If you have any issues at all with your boiler or even if you just need some advice, feel free to give me, Kenny a call on 07855 753099.
